Carmel Nielsen is a counsellor and psychotherapist with clinical registration as a member of Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia [PACFA]. Carmel has extensive experience counselling individuals and supporting families through times of crisis, difficulty and growth. With over ten years experience in education as a respected, trusted and knowledgeable coordinator of wellbeing and disability in the secondary school sector. Her work in this sector included supporting young people with therapeutic counselling, advocacy, crisis intervention, wellbeing program development, wellbeing team and learning support team coordination and external key stakeholder coordination.

The Approach

Carmel’s approach is empathic and person-centred using evidence based and strength based modalities such as; cognitive behavioural therapy [CBT], psychodynamic therapy, trauma informed CBT, family systems therapy and solutions-focused therapy. Carmel creates individualised plans to suit different life stages and needs. The goal of the therapeutic process is to guide clients to manage their challenges, enhance their ability to cope and create better life opportunities.

Carmel has a special interest in the science of happiness, positive psychology, resilience training and trauma informed practise.
